Distinguished Alumni Award

This award is presented to SUNY Canton Alumni who excel in their service to the College, community involvement, and their professional employment. Nominations for the 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award will be accepted through June 1, 2021. All submissions after this deadline will be considered for 2022.

2020 Distinguished Alumni

Edward N. Coombs '86

The 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient was Edward N. Coombs '86. Sadly, Ed passed away on October 13, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. SUNY Canton is eternally grateful to Ed for his many years of passion and dedication to the College and its students.

A longtime college volunteer, Ed was a former Marine Corps and Army Reserves Member who, in his twelfth year of service to the Canton College Foundation Board of Directors, was currently serving as vice chair.

Ed was a New York State-certified public accountant and managing member of Edward N. Coombs LLC, which provides advisory services to a variety of businesses and non-profits. His financial expertise was invaluable to the Canton College Foundation throughout the past decade.

Ed received an associate degree in Business Administration and a second degree in Accounting from SUNY Canton, then went to complete his bachelor's degree in Accounting from SUNY Oswego. He was an active member of Delta Kappa Sigma fraternity, holding several leadership positions and maintaining strong ties with the organization.

Established in 2011, the SUNY Canton Hall of Fame celebrates the past, present and future of the College through the recognition of those who have made significant contributions in their work, in their communities, and in the storied history of SUNY Canton.

The nominated candidate must have a reputation for excellence and dedication, bringing credit and honor upon the College through their career and scholastic achievements, campus and community involvement, their character, Those featured in the Hall of Fame include founders, faculty and staff members, alumni, and community members.

Outstanding young alumni award

The Outstanding Young Alumni Award was establsihed in 2021, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Each year, the Canton College Foundation and Office of Alumni Affairs, with the assistance of the Hall of Fame Commitee, will bestow this award upon one or more individuals.

The recipient(s) of this award will possess the following qualities:

     •Is a graduate of SUNY Canton

     •Is under the age of 40 by November 1 of the nominating year

     •Shows promise for future career professional achievements

     •Is an emerging leader through professional and/or community achievement

     •Promotes SUNY Canton to peers, fellow alumni, and potential students through their career and social networks

     •The nominee must be living
