SUNY Canton's 2022 Hall of Fame Inductees: Dr. William J. and JoAnne M. Fassinger
JoAnne M. Fassinger, Emeritus

JoAnne, a Syracuse NY native, graduated from SUNY Morrisville in 1972 with an AAS degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. While residing in Tucson, AZ she attended the University of Arizona and graduated in 1982 with a BS degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems.

 

While at the SUNY Canton  she was the Grants Coordinator. JoAnne worked closely with faculty and staff to procure funding in various areas, sat on a number of committees and was the Advisor for the SUNY Canton student chapter of Habitat for Humanity. She was also engaged in the Canton community as President of the Canton Free Library, Board member and officer of Raquette Valley Habitat for Humanity and a communicant/Trustee at St. Mary’s.

 

Since retirement, JoAnne volunteered with the National Park  and US Fish and Wildlife Services in California, New Mexico and North Carolina. She currently resides in Canandaigua NY and continues her volunteer activities.

 

 

 

Dr. William J. Fassinger, Professor Emeritus

 

William J. Fassinger, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Criminal Justice Department, State University of New York at Canton College of Technology. Dr. Fassinger’s education includes an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Criminal Justice/Police Science from Auburn Community College, a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Criminal Justice from Wayland Baptist University, a Masters Degree in Education (MSEd)  [Vocational Education]  from the State University of New York at Oswego, a Masters Degree/Certificate of Advanced Studies in Education (MSEd/CAS) [School Administration] from St. Lawrence University, and a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Walden University.

 

He is a 20 plus year veteran of the United States Army Military Police Corps and culminated his career as a First Sergeant when stationed at the 10th Mountain Division  assigned to the 511th Military Police Company. He has performed Military Police duties in Ansbach, Germany, Stuttgart, Germany, Berchtesgaden, Germany, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Fort Drum, New York and performed duties in varied law enforcement positions. His deployments include Somalia [Operation Restore Hope, 1993], Panama [Operation Promote Liberty,1994], and Haiti [Operation Uphold Democracy, 1994]. 

 

He has 20 plus years’ experience teaching. While at the State University of New York at Canton he instructed in the Criminal Justice and Criminal Investigation degree programs. Dr. Fassinger performed numerous duties and was also an instructor at the David L. Sullivan Police Academy. He was the primary advisor for the Criminal Justice Student Association, the Student Veterans Association and assisted with the student chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

 

He has three daughters, Marietta, Gabriella, and Gina who reside in upstate New York and all three work in the field of education. Additionally, he has six grandchildren, three girls and three boys.

 

He has held membership in numerous organizations including Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, American Criminal Justice Association, Criminal Justice Educators of New York , International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Knights of Columbus,  Raquette Valley Habitat for Humanity, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

 

Since retirement, Will has volunteered with the National Park and US Fish and Wildlife Services in California, New Mexico and North Carolina.  He currently resides in Canandaigua NY and continues his volunteer activities.
